Purpose / Description
Supports recognised Ngāti Porou Taurāhere to deliver measurable reo and tikanga outcomes for uri living away from home — strengthening whakapapa connections. Each Taurāhere can access up to $10,000 per year (minimum 70% of funding must go to programme delivery, maximum 30% to administration).

Eligibility & Criteria

  • Must be a recognised Taurāhere group with consistent engagement of registered Ngāti Porou members (regular hui, events, or wānanga).
  • Contact person must be a registered Ngāti Porou member; at least 90% of membership registered.
  • Must have legal/charitable status or an approved fiscal host.
  • Must name at least one reo/tikanga lead and a succession role.
  • Activities must deliver Ngāti Porou benefit (no private gain).
  • Applications assessed against the Toitū Funding Matrix.
  • Reporting: mid-year and end-of-year reports against outcomes, plus one iwi insight/resource at year end.

Application Process

  1. Confirm Taurāhere recognition, membership details, and legal/charitable status (or fiscal host).
  2. Provide reo/tikanga lead and succession role details.
  3. Complete kaupapa plan, outlining outcomes, evidence, tikanga plan, reach, sustainability, and budget (≥70% programme delivery; ≤30% admin).
  4. Submit application for assessment via the Funding Matrix; decisions issued with any conditions.
