The revitalisation of Te Reo Ake o Ngāti Porou is one of the key priorities of Toitū Ngāti Porou.

In 2015, Dr Wayne Ngata reviewed earlier iwi reo strategies developed by TRONPnui and its predecessor, identifying the strongest components and combining them with his own expertise in reo acquisition and revitalisation.

From this process, a refreshed Ngāti Porou Reo Strategy was developed and presented to Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou for approval. An extraordinary $500k dividend was then secured from the Ngāti Porou Holding Company to drive reo initiatives across our rohe.

The strategy has since been published as a 40-page document enriched with imagery and content, capturing both the vision and practical steps to ensure our reo continues to thrive for generations to come.
