Purpose / Description
Funds kaupapa that advance Ngāti Porou culture across four tiers: Mo te Iwi, A-Hapū, Takitahi/A-Whānau, and Purapura — prioritising reo/tikanga outcomes, cultural integrity, and iwi-wide learning.
Eligibility & Criteria
- Applicant (or group contact) must be a registered Ngāti Porou member; group applications require ≥90% registered participants.
- Kaupapa must align with at least one of the seven cultural activity areas in the Trust Deed and meet charitable purpose.
- Excludes: retrospective costs, private/commercial gain, and generic events with no mātauranga content.
- Applications assessed via the Toitū Funding Matrix:
- Reo/Cultural Impact (40%)
- Reo + Tikanga Integration (20%)
- Cultural Integrity (20%)
- Reach & Inclusion (10%)
- Sustainability & Legacy (10%)
- Additional checks: innovation/R&D contribution and holistic wellbeing impact.
- Documentation required: verified bank account, endorsement letter (from specified Ngāti Porou leaders/entities), budget, evidence of other funding, financial statements (if organisation), and participant/event info.
- Funding rounds: Koanga (Sept–Oct), Raumati (Jan–Feb), Hotoke (May–Jun).
Application Process
- Confirm tier & kaupapa: select funding tier and provide kaupapa details (title, description, locations, dates, activity areas).
- Prepare documents: endorsement letter, bank verification, budget, other funding, financial statements (if an organisation), and participant/event info.
- Matrix case: answer prompts across the five weighted areas, plus innovation/learning and (optional) holistic wellbeing.
- Submit in round & assessment: applications assessed and colour-coded: Green (fund), Orange (conditional), or Red (decline). Orange outcomes will specify missing evidence and release-of-funds conditions.
