Supporting Hapū Development Across Ngāti Porou

The Rohenga Tipuna Grant supports hapū-led development initiatives that strengthen capability, governance, administration, and collective aspirations within each Rohenga Tipuna.

Following a recent review by Toitū Ngāti Porou Charitable Trust, the grant has been refreshed to strengthen collective endorsement, improve accessibility, and support greater utilisation of available funding across Ngāti Porou.

Funding of up to $50,000 per Rohenga Tipuna per annum remains available, with a maximum allocation of $150,000 per Rohenga Tipuna over 3-years.

What's Changed?

The refreshed approach:

• Strengthens marae involvement and collective decision-making.
• Requires endorsement from Marae Chairs within the relevant Rohenga Tipuna.
• Removes the previous three-year funding timeframe, allowing groups more flexibility to access available funding over time.
• Allocates funding proportionately based on the level of marae endorsement received.

For example, if an applicant receives endorsement from 50% of the marae within their Rohenga Tipuna, they may apply for 50% of the annual allocation. Full endorsement enables application for the full annual allocation.

Who Can Apply?

Applications may be submitted by entities seeking to deliver activities and outcomes that align with the purposes and objectives of the Toitū Ngāti Porou Trust Deed.

Applicants must:

• Be a registered charitable legal entity; or
• Nominate an endorsed charitable fundholder to receive and administer funding on behalf of the Rohenga Tipuna collective.
